The holiday season is often combined with family, fun and festivities, but Steamboat finds a way to take the joy to new heights. On top of world class ski runs out your back door, the town offers events for everyone that are sure to leave even the biggest Grinch in your group with a smile.
Kick off your Christmas celebrations with the kids on Saturday, December 21st with a visit to Santa. Head downtown to the Bank of the West lawn and you’ll find Santa in Santa’s Study ready to Ho-Ho-Ho in a photo with the family. Don’t forget your camera to capture the fun! Santa will be available to find your family on his “Nice List” from 11:00am – 1:00pm.
Take the family down to Steamboat Ski Resort’s Gondola Square on Sunday, December 22nd for the annual Holiday Festival on the Mountain. Watch Santa embrace the Steamboat culture when he rides down the slopes on horseback and then meet him and his reindeer friends in the square. Listen to the live holiday music from Face Vocal Band on the Steamboat Stage while the children decorate cookies and gather treats in their stockings from local shops. End the day with a bang and stay for the Torchlight Parade and fireworks once dark settles in. The festival runs from 2:00pm – 5:30pm.
Ringing in the new year in Steamboat? Start your Tuesday evening at Steamboat’s annual New Years Eve Torchlight Parade and Fireworks Show at the ski resort. You won’t want to miss the line of torch-carrying Steamboat SnowSports School kids weaving their way down the mountain single-file on skis. In addition to the torches, watch one of the biggest fireworks displays of the year illuminate the sky and get the crowds excited to say hello to 2020! Celebrations begin at 5:30pm.
Once night falls, let the babysitter entertain the kiddos while the adults go out to play. Start the “grownup-friendly” portion of your New Year’s Eve celebrations at Mountain Tap Brewery with their featured Farm to Table… Field to Glass New Year’s Eve Beer Pairing Dinner. You’ll be served a delectable wood-fired four course feast highlighting ingredients from all local Yampa Valley curators. The farm-style dishes will be expertly paired with Mountain Tap’s own craft beers. Dinner is served from 6-9pm, giving you plenty of time to get to your final 2019 destination before the clock strikes twelve.
Embrace the last hours of 2019 and attend the biggest and most beautiful party in Steamboat at the Korbel New Year’s Eve Party on the Mountain. Take the brand new gondola with 360-degree nighttime views of the Yampa Valley to the top of the mountain and celebrate in the appropriately-named Champagne Powder Room. You’ll dance the night away to DJ entertainment with glasses of Korbel’s Champagne in hand. Pair your champagne or libation of choice with something from the complimentary dessert bar, chocolate fountain or small bite appetizers while you overlook the shimmering lights of Steamboat Springs below. The party runs from 9pm all the way into the first hours of 2020.
