In The ‘Boat Weekly Update

Mother Nature stepped it up the past two days giving us what we are used to in Steamboat; more fluffy snow than what the weatherman predicted with 11.5 inches total from the most recent storm. Today, Tuesday, the sun is shining and the sky is a blue as it gets in Colorado.  The snow will be fast and fun this upcoming week with cold temperatures and more snow forecasted on Thursday.  In addition, there are little crowds out there in early season so get out there and enjoy it!  Mountain crews are working hard to get more terrain open.  Keep an eye out for Storm Peak Express with access to Buddies Run to be opening soon with top to bottom skiing and riding.

If you are looking for a ski break, the fishing on the Yampa River has been excellent!

As of Tuesday, December 5, 2017, there are 2 lifts and 6 trails open: four Blue and two Green trails.

Cumulative snowfall of 44 inches, with 11.5 inches of fresh.  There is a 19 inch base. Snow conditions are packed-powder, spring-like conditions.

Good to Know

Things are just gearing up here in Steamboat.  We are getting out the gear, doing our snow dance, and checking out all the holiday happenings.

There have been some good autumn snow storms to get us excited about the 2017-2018 ski season.  All indications lead us to believe that the season ahead will be filled with adventure and memorable Steamboat experiences.

A unique feature of Steamboat Springs is our “Champagne Powder®”.  This inviting trademarked term was first coined by local rancher Joe McElroy, even before the ski area opened.

Powder Skiing
McElroy was aptly describing the deep, light and dry snow that falls so often in this area of the Rocky Mountains.  He went on to explain that like champagne, the snow would tickle his nose.  Champagne Powder—it’s on its way. Hope that you will be there when it is hip-deep and tickling your fancy!
