State Parks Near Steamboat Springs, Colorado

There are two world-class state parks that are short drives outside of Steamboat that offer a wide range of year-round, family outdoor fun. See below for details of what each state park can offer to enhance your next Steamboat Vacation.


STEAMBOAT LAKE STATE PARK

Steamboat Lake State Park

Located around a half hour drive north of Steamboat through rolling ranch lands along the Elk River sits Steamboat Lake State Park.  The 1,053 acre Lake is situated between two massive peaks, Sand Mountain and Hahns Peak.

Activities: Fishing, picnicking, hiking, swimming, boating (May 1st – Nov 1st, inspection required), paddle boarding, water skiing and wakeboarding,  snowshoeing, cross-country skiing.

STAGECOACH STATE PARK

Stagecoach State Park is about a 25 minute drive South of Steamboat.  The 820 ace reservoir is the first impoundment the water of the Yampa River encounters as is descends from its origin in the Flat Top Mountains.

Activities: Fishing, picnicking, hiking, swimming, boating (May 1st – Nov 1st, inspection required), paddle boarding, water skiing and wakeboarding,  snowshoeing, cross-country skiing.

Local Tip: Stagecoach Reservoir is a fishing mecca.  Stocked with 1,000’s of rainbow trout annually, this is the perfect place to take the kids fishing in Colorado beauty.  This lake has held the Colorado State Record Northern Pike in the past and is thought that the next record will again be broken here.
