Steamboat Events Lineup Winter 2017-2018

Aside from skiing and riding some of the worlds best snow, groomers and glades, Steamboat Springs has a great lineup of events to enjoy this winter! 
Here are some of our favorites:

Opening Day |  November 23, 2017

Join Steamboat Ski Resort for their opening day! Come kick off the season with fantastic skiing and riding. More terrain openings will be announced later in the week.

Winter Expo | December 6, 2017

Become a winter activities expert. Learn what to do, where to eat, and where to go this winter in Steamboat Springs. Over 50 local businesses, restaurants, and recreation companies will be exhibiting the best of what Steamboat has to offer. Free food and great prize giveaways!

 

Holiday Classic Race | December 20-22, 2017

Come watch Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club athletes as they compete in the Holiday Classic FIS Slalom races.  Some of the best athletes from around the country will be racing.

Torchlight Parade and Fireworks | December 31, 2017

The Steamboat Snowsports School treats guests to a beautiful on-snow parade down the mountain lit only by the torches. The start time is determined by sunset. A fireworks display will follow the torchlight parade for a perfect end to the evening.

MusicFest | January 4-9, 2018

This is the 33rd annual MusicFest!  The six day festival continues to draw thousands of people who love skiing and music. The festival features 50+ performers of Texas and Americana music including, Lee Ann Womack, Cody Canada & The Departed, Dirty River Boys, Jack Ingram, and so many more!

 

Balloon Glow | January 14, 2018

The night begins at 5 pm, with six hot air balloons to light up the Rocky Mountain sky. Come hang out in Gondola Square to experience the beauty and color up close! Night skiing begins at 5:30 pm.

44th Annual Bud Light Cowboy Downhill | January 15, 2018

Pure Steamboat – Cowboys on Skis! The Director of Skiing, Billy Kidd, and six-time World Champion Cowboy, Larry Mahan, made the decision to invite some ProRodeo cowboys to Steamboat to have some fun on the slopes. The Downhill is a signature Steamboat event!

 

Winter Carnival | February 7-11, 2018

The Winter Carnival was started by Winter Sports Club as a way to help residents cope with cabin fever – the event still continues today as a way to celebrate winter. Events include, kids being pulled on skis behind horses down main street. The “Donkey Jump”, which sends kids soaring off a jump for up to 40 or even 50 feet is exciting to see.  The Night Extravaganza, where Howelsen Hill is lit up with colors while athletes flip through the air off the jumps, while others ride down the mountain with red torches.

A fireworks display will follow the torchlight parade for a perfect end to Valentine’s day. We hope to see you and your sweetheart at this fun event.

WinterWonderGrass Festival | February 23-25

The WinterWonderGrass festival is the perfect combination for bluegrass music and craft beer lovers gathering for an exciting event.  The 6th annual festival features over 20 breweries and more than 25 bands, including: Greensky Bluegrass, Elephant Revival, Leftover Salmon, and The Sam Bush Band. This is a family-friendly event that even includes a colorful kids zone with crafts and face painting for everyone to enjoy.

Red Ball Express | April 7, 2018

The Red Ball Express is a race of more than 100 red exercise balls sent down a course on Stampede at Steamboat Ski Resort. The first balls down the course determines who wins cash prizes of up to $2500.  This is a fantastic Spring skiing event.

 

Cardboard Classic | April 14, 2018

This unique event features homemade cardboard crafts racing down Stampede in an attempt to win it all! Participants may only use cardboard, glue, string, paint, tape, balloons, and other decorations to create hysterical rides down the mountain. The races begin at 11:00am.
