Long sunny days and warm summer nights are what makes summer in the mountains special. It almost makes it seem like there is actually enough time in the day to do everything you want. Enjoy a sight less seen on your gondola ride back down, a bird’s eye view of Steamboat at night. $15 includes Gondola Ride and $5 off food or beverage, season pass holders ride for free.First Friday Art Walk- Friday, August 4th from5-8 pm. A local favorite! Local art galleries, museums, and alternative venues downtown invite you to check out their galleries featuring art exhibits from local and national artists. Refreshments (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic) and snacks are served at each stop. This a wonderful way to start your Friday evening before heading to dinner with the family.
Farmers Market- Saturday, August 5th from 9:00 am-2:00 pm downtown on 7th and Yampa Streets See the community come together with the weekly farmers market as now over 100 local vendors display fresh foods, snacks, sauces, arts and crafts, stained glass, you name it. Start your Saturday with coffee and breakfast at the market and pick up some of the newest local crafts before they hit the shelves.
Movies on the Mountain- Saturday, August 5th starting at 8:33 pm. Bring the family and settle in under the stars in Gondola Square. This weeks feature is Hidden Figures, a story of an unlikely young Woman called upon to solve problems that are out of this world.
Piknik Theater Festival- Sunday, August 6th from 6-7:30 pm at Bud Werner Memorial Library. The Great American Laughing Stock Company put on a performance of William Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice. The Great American Laughing Stock Company also puts on The Chosen One at different times during the week. See a full schedule here.
Fly Fishing- Warm waters on the Yampa through town have slowed the fishing a bit. Big fish can still be taken in the early morning hours when the light is low and the water is a little cooler, I have had a lot of fun casting grass hopper imitations against grassy banks this past week! After around 11:00 the fishing comes to a halt. Please refrain from fishing during the heat of the afternoon on the town section as any fish handled could easily be killed. Local Tip: Find cooler waters for better Fishing. Sarvis Creek and Stagecoach Tailwaters provide cool water all day because of their proximity to the Stagecoach Dam. Adventure into the Flattops to find solitude and cooler waters. Local guide service, Yampa Valley Anglers, are experts on the Yampa and Flattops fishing. Guests who stay with us receive 10% off their next guided trip.
Mountain Biking- Steamboat offers great mountain biking for all ages and ability levels. The trails have been riding wonderfully in Bike Town, USA. Visit Ski Haus for bike rentals for whatever style of riding you like and maps and trail information. Local Suggestion: For great riding of all ability levels check out the Emerald trail system. Family friendly trails include the Bluffs, Morning Gloria, and Larrys. Slightly more aggressive are Lupine, Eye to Eye, and NPR.
Zip-Lining – Sling yourself over the Yampa Valley and enjoy incredible views and thrills with Steamboat Zipline Adventure. This unique activity has been growing in popularity and is new to Steamboat. Starting half way up Rabbit Ears Pass the tours include a 6 stage zip line tour with some mild hiking and ATV riding. Saftey, big smiles, and high fives are what Steamboat Zipline Adventure tours are all about!
